About GIF Comments
GIF Comments answers one question well: how to post GIFs in YouTube comments. YouTube started rolling out GIF comments in October 2026, in the app only. We built GIF Comments for YouTube, a small free browser extension that adds the missing GIF button to youtube.com, and this site to explain how GIF comments work on every device.
What the extension does
It adds a GIF button next to the emoji button in YouTube's comment and reply boxes. You search Tenor, pick a GIF and press Post GIF. The comment goes out through YouTube's own page, as an ordinary YouTube GIF comment, so everyone sees it without installing anything.
What it can't do
- Post GIFs that YouTube doesn't accept: only Tenor GIFs rated G go through.
- Add GIFs while editing a comment or writing a community post.
- Work forever without updates: it is not made by YouTube, and a change on YouTube's side can break it until we ship a fix.
Independence
GIF Comments is independent and is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by YouTube, Google or Tenor. YouTube is a trademark of Google LLC.
