Privacy policy

This policy covers the website gifcomments.com and the browser extension GIF Comments for YouTube. Updated October 14, 2026.

The extension

  • No personal data is collected. The extension has no account, no analytics and no server of ours. We never receive anything from it.
  • youtube.com: it adds the GIF button and, when you post, adds the chosen GIF's Tenor ID to the comment that YouTube's own page sends. It does not read your password, cookies, history or other comments.
  • Tenor: your search words go to Tenor (tenor.com and tenor.googleapis.com) to find GIFs, without your cookies. Tenor's own privacy policy applies to those requests. GIF previews load from Tenor's media servers.
  • gifcomments.com: on this site only, it tells the page which version is installed so the page can skip the install steps.
  • Stored on your device: the GIFs you save, your recent GIFs and the Hide GIFs setting are kept in the browser's extension storage. They never leave your computer and are deleted when you remove the extension.

The extension's data use follows the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. It does not sell, transfer or use data for advertising, credit or any purpose other than posting GIFs.

The website

  • We count visits with Umami, a privacy-friendly analytics tool that uses no cookies and stores no personal data.
  • The demo on the home page runs entirely in your browser. GIF images load from Tenor.
  • Outside the EU, EEA, UK and Switzerland the site may show ads from an ad network, which may use cookies under its own policy. Visitors from those regions see no ads.
